Candidate filing period & online candidate filing

The filing period for citizens wishing to become candidates for elective office is rapidly approaching. The offices open for candidate filings this year include U.S. Representative, 3rd Congressional District; a Court of Appeals Judge, a Superior Court Judge, county offices of Assessor, Auditor, Clerk, County Commissioner for District 3, Prosecuting Attorney, Sheriff and Treasurer; all six District Court Judges, Clark Public Utilities District Commissioner for District 3; and 248 Republican Precinct Committee Officer positions and 248 Democratic Precinct Committee Officer positions.

The in-person period to file a declaration of candidacy will begin at 8:00 AM, Monday, May 12 and runs through 5:00 PM, Friday, May 16, 2014. Candidates wishing to file for office in person can do so at the Clark County Elections Department, 1408 Franklin Street, Vancouver, 98660.

Candidates for elective office also have the option of filing their declaration of candidacy over the Internet. The online candidate filing system will be available at http://clarkvotes.org from 9:00 AM, Monday, May 12 and will stop being available at 4:00 PM, Friday, May 16.

In order to file online as a candidate, a citizen must have a valid email address and be registered to vote in the jurisdiction for which they are filing. Candidates will also be able to pay any candidate filing fee online using a valid Visa or MasterCard credit card.

This year’s Primary will be held on August 5. The General election will be held on November 4, 2014.
