On January 2, 2015, the body of Jessica Danielle Newton, 40, was found along the Clark County bank of the Columbia River on Bachelor Island. Her death was ruled a homicide resulting from multiple injuries. 

Newton had ties to Clark County but had most recently been staying at an apartment in southeast Portland. She had a history of drug use and unstable housing, information investigators believe may be relevant to the case. 

Detectives believe Newton may have been placed in the Willamette River prior to her body being recovered on Bachelor Island. The case remains unsolved.
