Vancouver, Wash. ‒ Taxpayers who question the 2017 assessed value of their property have until Monday, Aug. 7, to appeal to the county Board of Equalization. A Notice of Value was mailed to each Clark County property owner in early June.
Appealing the assessed value of property is free and a legal right under RCW 84.40.038 and WAC 458-14-056.
People wanting to file an appeal can go to https://www.clark.wa.gov/general-services/board-of-equalization to find detailed information about the appeal process, the appeal form and tips on how to appeal. Applicants also can get a form by calling the board’s office at 360.397.2337 or emailing BOE@clark.wa.gov.
Appeals must be received by the Board of Equalization office by 5 p.m. Monday, Aug. 7. The appeal form and supporting documentation can be submitted at the Board of Equalization office, 1300 Franklin St., Suite 650, between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
The documents also can be mailed to Board of Equalization, P.O. Box 5000, Vancouver, WA 98666-5000, but must be postmarked no later than Aug. 7. They also can be faxed to 360.397.6162.
The three-member Board of Equalization assists in the administration of property valuation used for tax purposes, providing an impartial forum for property owners. The citizen board is an independent body organized to process and hear appeals of various determinations made by the Assessor’s Office, including changes to real and personal property values, forest land classification determinations and claims for exemptions. Hearings are held on an individual basis.
