Vancouver, WA  ̶  The Board of County Councilors voted Tuesday to appoint a task force to study alternatives to the current fee waiver program and eliminate the current program at the end of the year.

All building project applications submitted on or after Jan. 3, 2017, when the county reopens for business after the New Year’s Day holiday, will be subject to fees or any other fee waiver program in effect at that time.


• Prosecuting Attorney

Vancouver, WA – Clark County filed a complaint Monday asking a Clark County Superior Court judge to declare null and void a referendum that put the newly approved Comprehensive Growth Management Plan update on hold.

The Board of County Councilors voted during its July 13 Board Time meeting to file the complaint in response to a citizen activist filing the referendum petition with the Clark County Elections Office five days earlier.


• Public Works

Closure will avoid major traffic backups, delays on Northeast Andresen Road

Vancouver, WA – Sidewalk construction on Northeast 58th Street will enter a phase next week that will require temporarily closing a short section of the road for four weeks.

Northeast 58th Street will be closed from Northeast 66th Avenue east to Northeast Andresen Road from Monday, July 25, through Friday, Aug. 19.


• Public Health

Vancouver, WA – Clark County’s Green Business Program will host a Morning Blend networking event 8-9 a.m. Thursday, July 21, at Cadet Manufacturing, 2500 W. Fourth Plain Blvd.

The Morning Blend event provides an opportunity to network and discuss green business efforts in a relaxed setting. Cadet employees will start the event talking about their manufacturing process and the green initiatives they have implemented.

After the event, Cadet will offer a short tour of the facility for Morning Blend participants.


• Elections

Ballots are in the mail for the upcoming Aug. 2 primary and special election. For this election, all registered voters in Clark County will receive a ballot.


• Community Planning

Vancouver, WA – Financing options to help modify a home or build a new one to meet a resident’s changing needs will be the topic of a Tuesday, July 19, meeting of the Commission on Aging.

The 4:30 p.m. meeting will be in the sixth-floor hearing room of the Public Service Center, 1300 Franklin St. It is open to the public.

The speaker will be Mark Eshelman, a long-time loan officer who specialized in reverse mortgages.


• Community Development

Vancouver, WA – Starting at 12:01 a.m. Friday, July 15, all land clearing and residential burning in Clark County will be restricted until further notice.

The Fire Marshal also is rescinding all burning permits issued prior to the ban. Permits can be reissued or extended when the ban is lifted. The burning restrictions do not apply to federally managed lands.

Vancouver, WA – Clark County residents will get an insider’s look at 10 natural gardens that showcase earth-friendly gardening techniques during the Green Neighbors Natural Garden Tour from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, July 17.

• Public Health

Vancouver, WA – The Board of County Councilors is seeking applicants to fill a volunteer position on the Solid Waste Advisory Commission.

The position represents the southwest area of the county. Applicants must live south of 179th Street and west of State Route 503, or Northeast 117th Avenue.

The three-year term begins Oct. 1.

The commission meets at 6 p.m. on the first Thursday of each month in the Auto Licensing and Elections Office, 1408 Franklin St.


• Community Services

Vancouver, WA – Clark County Community Services is asking residents who are low-income to complete a survey about their family’s needs. The survey, which can be completed online or on paper, will take approximately 12 minutes. It is strictly confidential.

The survey will be available from mid-July through Sept. 30.
