Vancouver, WA – Acting County Manager Mark McCauley is seeking volunteers to serve on the county’s Clean Water Commission.

Two positions are available, and terms run from January 2016 through January 2019.

The nine-member Clean Water Commission is an advisory group that makes recommendations to the Board of County Councilors about services, policies and financing to meet federal and state requirements for water quality, including stormwater management.

Vancouver, WA – Kay Hust, manager of the Salmon Creek Wastewater Treatment Plant, has been honored for her work with the Northwest’s premier clean water association.

The Pacific Northwest Clean Water Association presented Hust with its Arthur Sidney Bedell Award during a banquet last week. The award is given annually to a member who demonstrates sustained contributions to the association for at least five years.

“I’m very humbled,” Hust said, “because I looked out at that audience and saw a lot of people who deserved it more than me.”

Vancouver, WA  --  The Board of County Councilors has invited local city officials and the county Planning Commission to join in a work session to prepare for public hearings on a “preferred alternative” to update the local growth management plan.

Organizations with rural concerns also are encouraged to attend and may address planning issues under consideration.

In addition, the session will be open for anyone interested to receive the latest information available for public hearings on Nov. 19 (Planning Commission) and Nov. 24 (Board of County Councilors).

Vancouver, WA -- The Board of County Councilors has rescheduled to Monday, Nov. 9, a work session in preparation for a public hearing about a “preferred alternative” to update the local growth management plan.

The work session will be 1:30-3:30 p.m. in the sixth-floor hearing room of the Public Service Center, 1300 Franklin St.

Topics will include planning assumptions, including state forecasts for population increases over the next 20 years. In addition, the public briefing will examine alternatives focusing on rural areas.

A change has been made to the time the Clark County Canvassing Board will meet to canvass results of the Nov. 3, 2015 General Election. The Clark County Canvassing Board will convene at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 19, to canvass returns of the General Election held Nov. 3, 2015. The board will examine mail ballots, determine the status of provisional and challenged ballots, and perform other canvassing duties. The board will meet to certify election results at 8:00 a.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 24. Both meetings will be in the Elections Department conference room, 1408 Franklin St., Vancouver.

The commission provides leadership addressing the needs of people older than 50 and implements the county’s Aging Readiness Plan. Volunteer service is for a two-year term. Residents living anywhere in Clark County can apply; those with experience and expertise in advocating for seniors, launching new programs, public speaking or serving on boards and commissions are encouraged to apply. The commission meets 3:30-6 p.m. on the third Tuesday of each month.
