Vancouver, WA ‒ The last day to submit a mail-in voter registration form to be eligible to vote in the Feb. 14 special election is Tuesday, Jan. 17.

The deadline has been extended this year because the traditional Monday deadline falls on the Martin Luther King Jr. Day federal holiday, when the Clark County Elections Office will be closed.

Online registration applications can be submitted up to 11:59 p.m. Monday, Jan. 16. Visit the Elections Office website at clarkvotes.org and click on MyVote to register online. 

Residents with flu-like illness asked to contact their doctor first
 

Vancouver, WA – As influenza spreads, residents experiencing flu-like illness are asked to first contact their health care provider before visiting a hospital on their own. This will reduce overcrowding, help prevent the spread of flu to others, and ensure emergency departments are able to treat other serious medical conditions.

Vancouver, WA – Clark County Parks is seeking volunteers to assist with a project at Whipple Creek Regional Park in conjunction with Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

Participants will remove plant protectors from a mitigation planting site and cut blackberries from a future planting area.

The volunteer event will be 9 a.m. to noon Monday, Jan. 16. Please meet in the main parking lot at Whipple Creek Regional Park, 17202 N.W. 21st Ave. Parking is limited so volunteers are encouraged to carpool.

Vancouver, WA ‒ The pending retirement of Judge James P. Swanger will create a judicial vacancy in Clark County District Court effective March 1, 2017.

Pursuant to RCW 3.34.100, the county legislative authority is required to fill all judicial vacancies in Clark County District Court by appointment.

Vancouver, WA – With low temperatures and high winds expected through the weekend, health and emergency management officials are urging seniors and other at-risk populations to protect themselves from cold exposure and homeless people to seek shelter.

Vancouver, WA - At 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 5, 2017, the Clark County Elections Office will conduct a logic and accuracy test of the programming to be used to tabulate ballots and the accessible voting units for the Feb. 14, 2017 Special Election.

The test will be held at the Clark County Elections Office, 1408 Franklin St. Members of the news media, jurisdictions with measures on the ballot and public are invited to attend this test, which is required under Washington law.

Ballots will be mailed Friday, Jan. 27.   

Vancouver, WA – Clark County is seeking public comments on the annual update of its Stormwater Management Plan.

Comments will be accepted at an upcoming Clean Water Commission meeting, which begins at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 4, 2017, in the sixth-floor Training Room of the Public Service Center, 1300 Franklin St.

Vancouver, WA –Thousands of Clark County residents soon will want to dispose of Christmas trees.

Waste Connections, Inc. will pick up trees during its yard debris collection or regular garbage service available in most parts of the county. Trees taller than 5 feet must be cut into smaller sections no longer than 5 feet, regardless of whether they will be collected with yard debris or garbage.

Vancouver, WA – Clark County residents will have an opportunity to recycle a variety of holiday wastes early next month at the 2017 Holiday Recycling Event.

The event will be 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 7, 2017, at Cascade Middle School, 13900 N.E. 18th St.

Clark County residents can drop off block foam, electronics, artificial Christmas trees, strings of lights and metal-frame lawn ornaments.
