Vancouver, Wash. – Clark County Public Health has downgraded the advisories at Lacamas and Round lakes in Camas from danger to caution. Blooms of cyanobacteria, also known as blue-green algae, are still present at the lake, but results from recent water samples indicate low levels of toxins in the water.


• Community Development

Vancouver, Wash. – The Clark County Council this week adopted an ordinance that temporarily approves the use of recreational vehicles on private residential property for emergency habitation during the Clark County Declaration of Emergency related to the COVID-19 pandemic.

This action provides an alternative means of sheltering for persons displace due to the ongoing health emergency. The ordinance allows not more than one RV to be occupied by displaced persons on a private residential lot.

Conditions of the ordinance include that RVs must:

With the recent opening of outdoor recreation by Gov. Inslee and warm weather on the horizon, Clark County residents may soon be heading to local waterways for the first swim of the season. But area lakes and rivers are still cold, and water may be moving quickly.

Public Health encourages everyone to follow a few simple strategies to stay safe while enjoying the water now and throughout the summer.

Vancouver, Wash. - The filing period for citizens wishing to become candidates for elective office is rapidly approaching. The offices open for candidate filings this year include Congressional District 3, U.S.


• Community Development

Vancouver, Wash. ‒ Interim County Manager Kathleen Otto is seeking applicants for several open positions on the volunteer Animal Protection and Control Advisory Board.

The three (3) positions are for Clark County residents that represent:

  • Licensed veterinarian
  • Livestock owner
  • Member at large

Terms for the positions begin immediately. The livestock owner and member at large positions end Oct. 31, 2022, and the veterinarian position ends Oct. 31, 2023.


• Elections

Vancouver, Wash. – The Clark County Council is seeking nominations and applications to fill a vacant position on the three-member board that oversees Drainage Improvement District No. 5.

This position is for an unexpired term that ends in February 2022. The position will then be put on the special district general election ballot for a four-year, unexpired term.


• County

Vancouver, Wash. – The board of the Clark County Public Facilities District will hold a public meeting at 4 p.m. Monday, May 4, 2020.

The meeting will be held by phone. The call-in number is 1.408.418.9388 and the meeting access code is 969.354.381.#.

The Public Facilities District was formed in 2002 for the purpose of participating in the study, planning and development of one or more regional centers that would promote tourism, such as the convention center in downtown Vancouver and exhibition hall at the Clark County fairgrounds.


• Public Health

Clark County Public Health has closed Lacamas Lake and Round Lake in Camas after test results revealed elevated levels of cyanotoxins in the water.

Results from water samples taken from Lacamas Lake and Round Lake on Monday revealed cyanotoxins above the threshold levels recommended by the Washington Department of Health. Danger signs are being posted at public access points to the lake. Public Health is advising against all recreating in the lake, including swimming, kayaking, paddle boarding, canoeing and water skiing.

Clark County residents may have concerns about visiting hospital emergency departments during the COVID-19 pandemic, but health officials are urging people to seek emergency care when necessary.

Clark County Public Health, Legacy Salmon Creek Medical Center, PeaceHealth Southwest Medical Center and Vancouver Clinic are reminding people that local emergency departments are taking precautions to safely see patients and remain fully operational to treat patients with non-COVID-19 emergencies.
