Flu season is approaching, and this year it’s more important than ever to get a flu shot. While we don’t yet have a vaccine to prevent COVID-19, we do have a vaccine to prevent influenza.

“Flu shots are the best way to prevent influenza illness and hospitalizations,” said Dr. Alan Melnick, Clark County health officer and Public Health director. “By getting a flu shot, we will all do our part to ensure our health care system isn’t overburdened while influenza and COVID-19 are circulating in our community.”

Clark County is offering financial support to food establishments impacted by the public health measures implemented to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

Clark County Public Health will disburse federal CARES funding to eligible food establishments in the amount paid for their 2020 retail food permit. The permit fees range from $258 to $1,835. Permit fees for 2021 will still apply.

Food establishment owners can use the CARES funding at their discretion toward any operational expenses.

Businesses and individuals who are making a difference in the lives of people with developmental and/or intellectual disabilities will be honored at the Disability Employment Awareness Awards. The event takes place 5-6 pm Wednesday, Oct. 7, 2020.

Clark County Interim Fire Marshal Dan Young announced today he is lifting the ban on recreational and land clearing burning in unincorporated Clark County, effective midnight Wednesday, Sept. 30.

Residents must follow all local outdoor burning regulations and burning permit requirements. Recreational campfires are allowed if built in improved fire pits in designated campgrounds, such as those found in local, county and state parks. On private land, recreational fires must be built according to the following regulations:

At 2 pm on Tuesday, Oct. 6, the Clark County Elections Office will conduct a logic and accuracy test of the programming to be used to tabulate ballots and the accessible voting units for the Nov. 3 general and special election.

The test will be held at the Elections Office, 1408 Franklin St. Members of the news media, jurisdictions with measures on the ballot and the general public are invited to attend this test, which is required under Washington law.

Ballots will be mailed Friday, Oct. 16.   

Vancouver, Wash. – Clark County Public Works, Parks and Lands Division, is currently recruiting Park Hosts for a few park locations in northern Clark County and Washougal. Park Hosts live onsite and are responsible for tasks including; opening and closing entrance gates, greeting and assisting park visitors, removing litter, and cleaning restrooms.

Vancouver, Wash. – Contractors with Clark County Public Works will close the westbound section of Northeast 99th Street between Highway 99 and Northeast 13th Avenue beginning Saturday, Oct. 3.

The Clark County Council is seeking applicants to fill five vacancies representing the active farming community on the Clark County Farm Advisory Committee for 2021.

The term for this committee is one year from January through December and shall convene a minimum of once per year. 

Clark County Superior Court Commissioner Dayann Liebman passed away Thursday, Sept. 17.

Commissioner Liebman graduated from Washington State University and the Northwestern School of Law at Lewis and Clark College. She was a local family law attorney for 30 years before being selected as a Commissioner in 2011. 

Clark County will host a public participation event to get feedback on amending its equestrian and horse boarding regulations to address a variety of concerns and impacts.

The event will take place 6-8 pm Wednesday, Oct. 7 on WebEx. The county council will participate in the event by listening but will not make decisions on county code during the session.

During the moderated forum, there will be approximately 90 minutes for public comment. Each speaker will have up to three minutes to express their support, objections, opinions, ideas and recommendations.
