Vancouver, Wash. – As one contractor finishes improving one section of Northeast 119th Street, a different contractor is starting to upgrade another section.

McDonald Excavating Inc., a Washougal-based contractor, is completing a two-year project to improve Northeast 119th Street, from Northeast 50th Avenue to Northeast 72nd Avenue.

Rotschy Inc., a Vancouver-based contractor, is in the early stages of a two-year project to improve Northeast 119th Street, from east of Northeast 87th Avenue to Northeast 112th Avenue.


• Public Health

Vancouver, Wash. – Public Health officials are urging residents to take precautions to prevent heat-related illnesses during the stretch of hot weather this week.

The length of the hot spell, coupled with warm overnight temperatures that provide little relief from the heat, can create a risk to health and safety.


• Treasurer

Vancouver, Wash. ‒ The Clark County Finance Committee is scheduled to meet at 3 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 7, 2018. The meeting is open to the public.

The meeting will be held in Conference Room 223, second floor of the Public Service Center, 1300 Franklin St.

The agenda includes discussion of the Second-Quarter 2018 County Finance Report.

• Public Health

Vancouver, Wash. – Clark County Public Health is investigating two cases of shigellosis, a bacterial infection spread through fecal-oral transmission. The cases were reported to Public Health today. 

The investigation has identified Battle Ground Lake as a possible source of the infection. Public Health posted signs at the lake this afternoon warning the public about the potential risk of infection. The lake and Battle Ground Lake State Park remain open.


• Elections

Vancouver, Wash. – Ballots are in the mail to all registered voters for the upcoming Aug. 7 primary. For this election, all Clark County voters will receive a ballot.

If a voter does not receive a ballot by Thursday, July 26, please contact the Elections Office at (564) 397-2345 to request a replacement ballot. Replacement ballots also can be requested by email, by mail, or in person at the Elections Office, 1408 Franklin St. Office hours are 8 am to 5 pm, Monday through Friday.

Missing media item.Vancouver, Wash. – The National Association of County Collectors, Treasurers and Finance Officers, NACCTFO, awarded Clark County Treasurer Doug Lasher its Outstanding County Treasurer of the Year Award at its annual banquet last week.


• Public Health

Vancouver, Wash. — Clark County Public Health is continuing its investigation into a potential case of measles in a young child. Public Health on Monday announced three locations where people may have been exposed to measles. Public Health has since identified a fourth public location of possible measles exposure.

Vancouver, Wash. – The Clark County Board of Health is seeking applicants for three positions on the volunteer Public Health Advisory Council.

• Public Works

Vancouver, Wash. – A dirt trail at Lacamas Regional Park will be closed to foot traffic and become a one-way downhill trail for mountain bikers. The 297-acre regional park is home to more than 12 miles of trails.

The trail, unofficially known as Red Tape, is a 0.6 mile long winding, steep trail in the eastern section of the park. Designating the trail for one-way bike-only use will improve the safety at the park.

Vancouver, Wash. ‒ The public is invited to shop for farm-fresh food and regional products when the Franklin Street Farmers Market opens tomorrow in the plaza outside the Public Service Center, 1300 Franklin St.

The market’s debut will be 10 am to 2 pm Wednesday, July 11. It will run the same time each Wednesday through Sept. 26.
