The Clark County Elections Office is seeking people to write statements against three measures on the Aug. 1 primary ballot. The statements will be included in the local voters's pamphlet sent out before the election.

Statements supporting the three measures were submitted to Elections for inclusion in the pamphlet, but no one has been identified to write statements opposing the local ballot measures. In such cases, Elections attempts to find people who want to write opposing statements.

The three ballot measures are:

Vancouver, Wash. ‒ A celebration of life for District Court Judge Vernon L. Schreiber will begin at 1 p.m. Saturday, May 13, at the Clark County Event Center, Hall B, 17402 N.E. Delfel Road, Ridgefield.

Judge Schreiber died Tuesday, April 25, after a brief illness. He was 74.

Judge Schreiber was hired in January 1987 as a Clark County District Court Magistrate, a position now known as a Court Commissioner. He was elected to District Court in 1998 and took the bench as a judge in January 1999.

Vancouver, Wash. – Clark County Public Health’s Green Business program will host a free Morning Blend networking event from 8-9 a.m. Thursday, May 18, at Waste Connections, 12115 N.E. 99th St., Suite 1830.

Waste Connections and Clark County will present information on how to set up and maintain a food waste composting program. Staff will discuss the environmental benefits of composting, explain how the commercial composting program works, share best practices, and answer questions.

Vancouver, Wash. ‒ The Clark County Law Enforcement Officers’ and Fire Fighters’ Disability Board is seeking a local resident to serve a two-year term as an at large member beginning Aug. 1, 2017.

The volunteer board meets from 1:15 -2:15 p.m. on the second Thursday of each month in the Human Resources office on the fifth floor of the Public Service Center, 1300 Franklin St.

Vancouver, Wash. ‒ Clark County’s Animal Protection and Control Advisory Board is accepting grant applications from local organizations with programs dedicated to spaying and neutering animals. For the past 17 years, Clark County and Vancouver have provided grants to applicants in the city and unincorporated area of the county.

“Spay and neuter programs help all of us by reducing the number of animals that end up abandoned or at a shelter,” said Paul Scarpelli, Animal Control manager. “Altering your pet has proven to be healthier for the pet, as well as the community.”

Vancouver, Wash. ‒ The United States Coast Guard is now enforcing a new federal standard that could require about 19,000 Washington residents to change the Hull Identification Number on their vessels. The HIN is a unique identifier for each vessel.

Vancouver, WA – The Clark County Auditor’s Office is sponsoring a workshop entitled, "Winning Ways to Run for Office – A Candidate/Campaign Worker Workshop.’’

The free workshop will be 6:30-8:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 3, at the Clark County Elections Office, 1408 Franklin St.

Vancouver, Wash. ‒ The Clark County Finance Committee is scheduled to meet at 2 p.m. Thursday, May 4, 2017.

The meeting will be held in Conference Room 243 on the second floor of the Public Service Center, 1300 Franklin St. It is open to the public.

Vancouver, Wash. ‒ Clark County Community Services will host a forum next month that will give residents a chance to share their thoughts about findings of the county’s 2016 Low-Income Community Needs Survey.

The event will be Thursday, May 18, in the Columbia Room of the Vancouver Community Library, 901 C St.

Information will be available for viewing and comment during a 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. open house-style session. A formal presentation, group discussion and community feedback session will begin at 6 p.m.

Vancouver, Wash. - Treasurer Doug Lasher reminds residents that the first half of 2017 property taxes is due no later than 5 p.m. Monday, May 1.

Typically, the first installment of property taxes is due April 30, but because that date falls on Sunday this year, payments will be accepted until the close of business Monday, May 1. Interest charges will accrue after May 1.
