Clark County Public Health is warning the community about a recent increase in emergency department visits due to opioid overdoses. Preliminary evidence suggests most of the recent overdoses may be due to fentanyl.
Fentanyl is a synthetic opioid that is 50 times stronger than heroin and 100 times stronger than morphine. Fentanyl may be added to illicit drugs during their production without the drug user’s knowledge.
This Earth Day, Clark County Public Health is honoring environmental sustainability leaders in local K-12 schools with the 2023 Green Awards. The annual Green Awards highlight the accomplishments of individuals and organizations and celebrate their commitment to reducing harmful environmental impacts, educating others, and giving back to the community.
Clark County has grant funding opportunities for small businesses, non-profits, and community-serving organizations. The $3 million in grants are part of the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) of 2021 State and Local Fiscal Recovery Fund Grants Program (SLFRF) that supports recovery from negative economic impact brought on by COVID-19.
Eligible applicants include small businesses, nonprofit organizations, impacted/hardest hit communities, industries, sectors, and community-serving organizations in Clark County that experienced negative economic impacts as a result of COVID-19.
Beginning at 9 am Wednesday, April 26, elections officials will perform a hand count of approximately 600 ballots randomly selected as part of a manual comparison against machine results for the April 25, 2023, Special Election.
For this comparison, a proposition in the Washougal School District will be counted by hand, to check the accuracy of the ballot tabulation equipment. The selected ballots will be counted in the total returns on Election Day.
County Manager Kathleen Otto is seeking applicants to fill a vacancy on the Clark County Development and Engineering Advisory Board.
The opening is for a three-year term that will run April 1, 2023, through Mach 31, 2026.
The vacancy is for a public-sector engineer or planner.
Clark County formed the Development and Engineering Advisory Board to review policy and code changes and work with the Community Development and Public Works departments on process improvements and fee issues.
Clark County and the City of Vancouver are seeking applicants for three seats on the Clark County Historic Preservation Commission. The three-year terms will begin on July 1, 2023. Two of the seats will be appointed by the Vancouver City Council and one seat will be appointed by the County Council.

The Clark County Aging Readiness Plan assesses the county's readiness to serve as home for a growing number of older residents. The plan was approved in 2012 and includes strategies to improve the community’s capacity to support its growing older population and ultimately benefit all ages.
A contractor will repair a small area of the Klineline Pond parking lot at Salmon Creek Regional Park beginning Wednesday, April 19. Lakeside Industries will replace damaged concrete at the entrance to the bridge over Salmon Creek. The work area will be blocked with cones, signs and caution tape. While the parking lot will remain open, visitors are asked to avoid the work area. The work is expected to be completed by Friday, April 21, weather permitting.
Clark County is seeking applicants for four positions on its Commission on Aging. The commission manages and implements the county’s Aging Readiness Plan and fosters countywide awareness, dialogue and insight into challenges and opportunities for residents of all ages, incomes and abilities.
