Clark County Public Works Parks and Lands is seeking public comment on the Parks Capital Improvement Plan. The proposed six-year plan includes preventative maintenance projects, major maintenance projects and recreation enhancements at existing parks, and development of new parks. Projects in the plan address needs identified in the 2022 Parks, Recreation and Open Space Plan, which was created with input from the community and adopted by the Clark County Council in April 2022. 

Comments must be received by Tuesday, Aug. 6.

Parking lot, bulkheads closed late July through October

Clark County Public Works, Parks and Lands is announcing the construction of a new ADA-compliant fishing platform at Haapa Boat Launch Park in Woodland. The project is being fully funded by Pacificorp. Clark County and PacifiCorp have worked together on the design of a barrier-free bank fishing access site that meets standards compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). PacifiCorp will construct the ADA-accessible fishing platform this summer. 

Northeast Sunset Falls Road has been identified as a priority for road preservation treatments. The road provides access to recreation in the Gifford Pinchot National Forest. 

Road preservation work will begin in July to complete a chip seal asphalt layer, replace speed bumps, and restripe the roadway. Drivers in the area can expect occasional lane closures, delays and traffic impacts. Access to Gifford-Pinchot National Forest and Sunset Falls Campground will remain open. Construction is scheduled to be completed by September. 

Construction will begin in July to install safety improvements along Northeast 130th Avenue between Northeast 76th Street and Northeast Padden Parkway. A marked crosswalk with lighting and a flashing beacon will be installed at the intersection of Northeast 130th Avenue and the Padden Parkway multiuse trail. Additional improvements include: 

UPDATE: Helicopter operations are scheduled for July 3rd.  The main road, before the Grand Fir shelter and extending past Hemlock shelter, is closed all day. Sections of the park, including some trails, playgrounds, sports fields, shelters and more will be closed from noon to 3 p.m. When the work is complete, staff will remove signs and barriers and visitors can enter the area at that time. Visitors of the park are reminded not to enter areas closed with cones or barricades, or approach contractors as they work.

Update 8/1: The wooden arch bridge, upper parking lot, and the trail between are closed for construction work from Aug. 5th to end of Oct. 

Update 7/30: There have been some project delays and the contractor has not mobilized yet.  The upper parking lot and bridge remain open until further notice. Construction is expected to begin in the middle of August. We will give park users as much notice as possible before the closure of the upper parking area and bridge occurs.

Northeast 68th Street between Northeast 10th and Northeast 14th avenues will be closed to through traffic beginning June 24 for construction associated with the Northeast 68th Street Sidewalk Project. The project’s goal is to make the area safer for pedestrians by adding sidewalks and marked pedestrian crossings. Northeast 68th Street between Highway 99 and Northeast St. Johns Road serves a densely populated residential neighborhood with an average daily traffic of 3,288 vehicles. It currently has few sidewalks. 

Stormwater Partners of Southwest Washington is proud to announce the winners of the fourth annual Students for Clean Water Video Contest. The contest, for middle and high school students in Clark County, encourages students to think about their impacts on and connections to local streams. Students are asked to show their creativity by producing short videos about their connection to water or ways to protect water. This year more than 65 students from 12 Clark County middle and high schools submitted videos. A panel selected nine winners from 35 finalists.

Clark County Public Works, Parks and Lands invites residents to an open house to learn more about the master planning process for a new neighborhood park in the Mt. Vista neighborhood. The property that will become a park is located along Northeast 27th Avenue between Northeast 161st and Northeast 163rd streets.  

In just the first half of 2024, several work zone crashes in Southwest Washington have resulted in hospitalizations for workers, drivers and their passengers. This comes after fatalities from work zone crashes doubled in 2023. Clark County Public Works is launching the 2024 safe driving in work zones campaign to remind drivers that driving safely through work zones protects workers, drivers and their passengers.
