Clark County and the Cowlitz Indian Tribe are starting a fish habitat and recreation master planning process for the Gordy Jolma Family Natural Area. The property was formerly part of the Cedars on Salmon Creek golf course. The planning effort will focus on restoring fish habitat in Salmon Creek, removing fish passage barriers, and improving natural-resource based opportunities like walking, birdwatching, fishing, picnicking and cultural and environmental education. 

For the safety of park visitors, the Parks and Lands division of Clark County Public Works has closed sections of trail in Lacamas Regional Park, near Round Lake. The footbridge located on the trail to the lower falls has sustained significant structural damage and will need to be removed and replaced. This process will take one to two years to complete, including environmental permitting. Fencing will be installed around the closed area and signage will alert visitors to the closure. Currently temporary signs, barricades and caution tape mark the closed area.

Clark County Public Works, Parks and Lands division, invites residents to an open house to learn more about the development of Curtin Creek Community Park, 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, March 6. The 17-acre property is located at 12603 NE 72nd Ave. in Vancouver. 

Clark County Public Works will be constructing a sidewalk along the east side of Highway 99 from the vicinity of Northeast 102nd Street to Northeast 104th Street. A portion of sidewalk will also be constructed on the south side of Northeast 104th Street to connect the project with the existing sidewalk. Completing missing segments of sidewalks is highly desired by residents in the Highway 99 corridor to improve pedestrian mobility and improve streetscapes. 

For the safety of park visitors, Clark County Public Works, Parks and Lands division, is closing areas of Daybreak Regional Park. The riverbank of the East Fork Lewis River at Daybreak Regional Park has experienced significant erosion and loss of bank-stabilizing trees. Fencing is being installed around the closed area, and signage will alert visitors to the closure. Visitors are reminded to never enter areas closed off by barricades, signs, cones, tape, fencing or other barriers, for their safety. 

Clark County Public Works is seeking applicants for open volunteer park host positions at Haapa Boat Launch and Frenchman’s Bar Regional Park, and an upcoming position at Lucia Falls Regional Park. Volunteer park hosts live at their assigned park and assist with creating a safe and welcoming environment for all visitors. Host duties include (but are not limited to): 

Drivers eastbound on Northeast 99th Street between Northeast 107th Avenue and Northeast 112th Place will encounter a single-lane closure on Monday, Jan. 29, Tuesday, Jan. 30 and Friday, Feb. 2. The closure is necessary to continue work on finalizing this new segment of road. The lane will be closed for roadwork during daytime hours and reopened each night. Traffic delays of up to 10 minutes are possible. While no lane closures are anticipated after Feb. 2, work is expected to continue through Tuesday, Feb. 6. Work is weather dependent.

Winter brings high water levels and swift currents to area rivers and streams each year. High river levels occur annually in the rainy season (October through March) and during spring snow melt (April through June). These high flows can pose safety hazards to visitors at parks including (but not limited to) Lewisville, Moulton, Lucia Falls, Frenchman’s Bar and Daybreak regional parks, Captain William Clark Regional Park at Cottonwood Beach, and Haapa Boat Launch.  

Construction will begin to replace guardrail on Jan. 22 at the three locations: Northwest 36th Avenue, Northeast 10th Avenue, and Northeast Boutelle Road. These roads are in the Felida, Dollar Corner and Lewisville areas, respectively. Replacing old and damaged guardrails ensures compliance with safety requirements and standards set by the Washington Department of Transportation.
