Vancouver, Wash. – The number of older adults will dramatically increase over the next 10 years. Transforming how we think about the value of an aging population and how communities position themselves to harness the tremendous resource older adults provide will be beneficial for all.

Learn about the importance of engaging older adults within our communities at the next meeting of the Commission on Aging, 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 16.

The meeting will be in the sixth-floor Hearing Room of the Public Service Center, 1300 Franklin St.

Vancouver, Wash. ‒ At 10 am on Monday, Oct. 7, the Clark County Elections Office will conduct a logic and accuracy test of the programming to be used to tabulate ballots and the accessible voting units for the Nov. 5 general and special election.

The test will be held at the Elections Office, 1408 Franklin St. Members of the news media, jurisdictions with measures on the ballot and the general public are invited to attend this test, which is required under Washington law.

Ballots will be mailed Friday, Oct. 18.   

Vancouver, Wash. ‒ County Manager Shawn Henessee is seeking applicants for several open positions on the volunteer Animal Protection and Control Advisory Board. These terms will be expiring at the end of October.

The five positions are for Clark County residents that represent:

• Licensed veterinarian
• Someone who does not own domestic animals
• Livestock owner
• Cat owner
• Member at large

Terms for the positions begin Nov. 1, 2019 and end Oct. 31, 2023.

Vancouver, Wash. – The Clark County Council is seeking applicants to fill five vacancies to represent the active farming community on the Clark County Farm Advisory Committee. 

The term is one year from January through December 2020, and the committee shall convene a minimum of once per year. 

Vancouver, Wash. – The season is changing, which means leaves are falling from trees all around Clark County. Residents of Vancouver and Clark County can dispose up to five cubic yards of leaves for free with coupons provided by Clark County Public Works and the city of Vancouver.

Vancouver, Wash. – Clark County invites residents to participate in a facilitated forum to discuss and review feedback and questions generated during a previous rural event venue forum conducted on July 31.  

The forum is scheduled from 6-7:30 pm, Wednesday, Oct. 9, in the sixth-floor hearing room of the Public Service Center, 1300 Franklin St. The meeting is open to the public.

Vancouver, Wash. – Different Views of Several Landscapes, artwork by Jeffrey Opp and Paul Solevad will be on display at the Anstine Sixth Floor Gallery Thursday, Sept. 26, through Monday, Dec. 23, 2019.

An opening reception honoring the artists is scheduled for 2:30 – 4:30 pm, Friday Oct. 4, at the Anstine Gallery, sixth floor of Public Service Center, 1300 Franklin St.

The Clark County Arts Commission is sponsoring this free event that is open to the public.

Vancouver, Wash. – Clark County is seeking applicants for openings on the Clean Water Commission.

Terms for the open positions begin January 2020 and end December 2022.

The nine-member advisory group makes recommendations to the Clark County Council about services, policies and financing needed to meet federal and state requirements for water quality and stormwater management improvements.

Applicants can live anywhere in Clark County. Unincorporated residents and people with analytical skills and/or experience with environmental issues are encouraged to apply.

Vancouver, Wash. – A road closure on Northeast Blair Road has been extended ten days to allow crews to complete work on the roadway improvement project.

Contractor crews working for Clark County Public Works closed the roadway just southeast of the Northeast Blair Road and Northeast Zeek Road intersection on July 26. The closure was necessary to allow crews to perform soil stabilization and roadway improvements in the area. The roadway was originally scheduled to reopen on Friday, Sept. 20, but unpredictable inclement weather delayed the work.

Vancouver, Wash. – An abundance of rain and cooler temperatures have prompted Clark County Fire Marshal Jon Dunaway to lift the ban on outdoor debris burning in unincorporated Clark County, effective 8 a.m. Friday, Sept. 20.
