Vancouver, WA - The public is invited to a ceremony honoring homicide victims in Clark County during the county’s annual observance of the National Day of Remembrance for Homicide Victims.

The ceremony will be 10 a.m. Monday, Sept. 26, in the sixth-floor hearing room of the Public Service Center, 1300 Franklin St. It is sponsored by the Prosecuting Attorney’s Victim Assistance Unit.

Sheriff Chuck Atkins will be the keynote speaker.

Vancouver, WA – Clark County will hold a Green Neighbors Recycling Day event from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 17, in yellow parking lot 1 at Clark College, 1900 Fort Vancouver Way.

County residents can drop off block foam, electronic equipment, old tires without rims, refrigerators, freezers, air conditioners and scrap metal. Participants are limited to five tires per person. Shredding services will be available, with a limit of two banker boxes per visit. No business waste will be accepted.

Vancouver, WA – Clark County’s Master Composter/Recycler program will host a Backyard Composting Workshop at 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 13. The free event will be at the Center for Agriculture, Science and Environmental Education (CASEE) at 11104 N.E. 149th Street, Building B, Brush Prairie.

Participants will receive information and resources on what composting is, why it is beneficial and how to build and maintain a successful backyard compost pile.

Vancouver, WA – Property owners in the Washougal River watershed have 90 days to submit information challenging proposed revisions to flood insurance rate maps.

Earlier this year, the Federal Emergency Management Agency issued preliminary maps showing revisions to the 100-year floodplain, which has a 1 percent chance of flooding in any year. These revisions reflect recent engineering studies and updated information.

Vancouver, WA ‒ Fire Marshal Jon Dunaway lifted the county’s ban on recreational fires Friday, but a ban on land clearing and open burns remains in place.

Effective immediately, Clark County residents can have recreational fires in metal-, stone- or masonry-lined fire pits such as those in improved campgrounds or available at stores.

Vancouver, WA – Clark County Community Services is reminding residents who are low-income to complete a survey about their family’s needs by the end of the month.

The survey, which can be completed online or on paper, will take approximately 12 minutes. It is strictly confidential. It is available through Sept. 30.
