• Assessor

Vancouver, Wash. – The Clark County Assessor has announced that seniors on the property tax exemption or deferral program will not receive their notice of property value in this week’s mailing of property tax notices. This is due to the state legislature passing ESSB 5160 raising the qualifying income levels among other changes.


• Public Health

Vancouver, Wash. ‒ Mosquito season has arrived. As Clark County Mosquito Control District crews work to control the mosquito population, Public Health officials are encouraging everyone to take steps to eliminate mosquito habitats and avoid mosquito bites.


• Community Planning

Vancouver, Wash. – The Clark County Council is accepting applications to fill a vacancy on the volunteer Planning Commission.

This position is for an unfinished term that begins immediately and ends Dec. 31, 2023.

The Planning Commission is a seven-member group that makes recommendations to the council on land-use planning, zoning and development in areas outside cities and about issues such as growth management, roads, public facilities, development regulations and applicable county ordinances.


• Community Planning

Vancouver, Wash. – Clark County is seeking applicants for one open position on its Commission on Aging. The commission manages and implements the county’s Aging Readiness Plan and fosters countywide awareness, dialogue and insight into challenges and opportunities for residents of all ages, incomes and abilities.

The term would be three-years beginning immediately and continuing through May 31, 2022. This is an at-large position. Residents from all areas of Clark County are encouraged to apply.


• Public Health

Vancouver, Wash. – The Clark County Recycled Arts Festival is looking for volunteers to serve during next month’s popular family event in Esther Short Park.

The eco-conscious event draws about 40,000 people to downtown Vancouver to see art and wares created by more than 130 different artists using at least 75 percent recycled materials. The two-day festival also features kids’ activities, live music, stilt walkers, jugglers, robots, a parade and much more.

Vancouver, WA ‒ The Clark County Auditor’s Office provides a printed voters’ guide with information about candidates and ballot measures for voters to make an informed decisions when voting the ballot for each primary and general election. The voters’ guide includes statements by and photographs of candidates for elective offices as well as local ballot measures with supporting and opposing statements written by citizens.


• Community Development

Vancouver, Wash. – Effective 8 am Wednesday, May 15, Clark County will lift the temporary burn ban that was imposed last week.

With rain currently falling and the forecast calling for more, Fire Marshal Jon Dunaway said it is safe to lift the current burn ban. “We are set to get a healthy dose of rain this week. That forecast, along with what rain is falling currently, gives us enough confidence to lift the burn ban.”


• Clark County Council

Vancouver, Wash. – The Clark County Council last night decided to update its hearing schedule. Hearings will begin at 6 pm on the first and third Tuesdays of the month. The council had implemented the evening schedule on a trial basis during the months of March and April.

County councilors updated county code 2.09.040, rules and procedures, during a public hearing last night. The change will go into effect on May 17.

Previously, council hearings were held at 6 pm on the first Tuesday of the month and 10 am on all other Tuesdays.

Vancouver, Wash. – Local business representatives have an opportunity to learn about green cleaning product manufacturer Biokleen at a free networking event this month.

Clark County’s Green Business program is hosting its Morning Blend networking event 8-9:30 am Thursday, May 16 at Biokleen, 5408 N.E. 88th St. Morning Blend is an opportunity for business representatives to network, discuss green business initiatives at workplaces, and learn about solutions for reducing our environmental impact.


• Community Development

Vancouver, Wash. – Due to the weather forecast for the rest of this week, Clark County is joining Skamania and Cowlitz counties in imposing a temporary ban on outdoor land clearing and residential burning effective at midnight tonight, May 9. Conditions will be assessed on Monday morning to determine if the ban should be lifted or left in place for a longer period of time.

The weekend forecast calls for temperatures in the upper 80’s and possibly 90 degrees, with low humidity and gusty winds.
