Vehicle licensing agents improve security after series of break-ins

Vancouver, WA  ̶  Three of Clark County’s vehicle licensing subagent offices recently were broken into after business hours in an apparently related series of smash-and-grab thefts.

To address the March 25-26 burglaries, staff from the Auditor’s Office and Sheriff’s Office met with the owners of the subagent offices to discuss ways to reduce vulnerabilities and improve security. Participants talked about their buildings, alarm and video systems and possible procedural changes.

A number of security improvements were put in place immediately after the meeting, and more are planned by the business owners.

A Sheriff’s Office representative told the owners and county officials that deputies were able to gather evidence from the crime scenes.

Auditor Greg Kimsey said his department takes such incidents seriously.

“I am pleased with how quickly our staff brought the subagents together with internal audit staff and the Sheriff’s Office to identify and help correct any weaknesses,” he said. “The owners, customers and the county are now more secure.”

In addition to the main licensing office at 1408 Franklin St., Clark County has nine storefront vehicle licensing stations throughout the county. There, residents can receive titles and registrations for a variety of motorized and non-motorized vehicles and vessels.
