Hold a Family Safety Night twice a year to talk about all kinds of safety issues in a fun, non-threatening and developmentally appropriate way. Holding Family Safety Nights are a great way to talk about hard topics in a way that isn't scary to kids. Talk about a variety of topics, including how and why to call 911 drug awareness, what to do in the event of bad weather, pool/water safety, online safety, bike safety, body safety, seatbelt use, etc. Mixing body safety conversations in with other aspects of safety discussions helps to normalize the topic and lets your children know that you are open to discuss any topic they need/want to talk about.
Ask some basic questions about a variety of safety topics to make sure everyone has the same information while doing a group project or playing a game that allows discussion.
