County council seeks applicants for pending District Court vacancy

Vancouver, WA ‒ The pending retirement of Judge James P. Swanger will create a judicial vacancy in Clark County District Court effective March 1, 2017.

Pursuant to RCW 3.34.100, the county legislative authority is required to fill all judicial vacancies in Clark County District Court by appointment.

Each qualified person wanting to be considered for appointment to the position of Clark County District Court judge is required to submit a letter of interest and résumé. The letter and résumé must be received by the Board of County Councilors Office no later than 5 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 17, 2017.

The documents can be mailed to the Board of County Councilors, P.O. Box 5000, Vancouver, WA 98666-5000 or delivered to Room 681 on the sixth floor of the Public Service Center, 1300 Franklin St., Vancouver, WA 98666-5000.

No faxes or emails will be accepted.

To be eligible for this position, an applicant must be a lawyer admitted to practice law in the state of Washington and a registered voter in Clark County.

The names of selected applicants will be submitted to the Clark County Bar Association for purposes of conducting a preference poll. The poll results and background documents will be provided to county council, which will conduct interviews. 

The council is expected to make an appointment by Tuesday, Feb. 14, 2017.
