Gary Medvigy selected as fifth county councilor

Vancouver, Wash. – Chair Eileen Quiring and Councilors Temple Lentz, Julie Olson and John Blom selected Gary Medvigy to fill an unexpired term on the county council.

Chair Quiring, a Republican, vacated the seat for council district 4 at beginning of January when she moved to the chair position after being elected in the November general election.

To fill the position, the Clark County Republican Party submitted names of three District 4 residents interested in serving on the council. All three candidates were interviewed today, Jan. 22. Medvigy was selected over Brook Pell and John Ley.

After Medvigy was selected he was sworn in by Clerk of the Council Rebecca Messinger.

Councilor Medvigy has worked 33 years in the government sector. He is a retired California Superior Court judge and served as major general in the U.S. Army. He has a master’s degree in strategic studies in national studies from the United States Army War College, a law degree from Vermont Law School and a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Vermont.

District 4 residents will have a chance to vote for a candidate when the seat is placed on the ballot later this year and again in 2020 when the current, four-year term expires.
