Clark County District Court Probation Services has improved and relaunched the Women’s Program starting June 2024. We anticipate that several of the goals below will take another year or more to implement. Keep checking out his page for updates!
The Women’s Program is a gender responsive supervision approach offered by Clark County District Court Probation Services. Gender responsive probation programs are needed due to the rising numbers of women on probation. Women’s pathways into crime are different than men, however, most probation programs are designed for men. The Women’s Program recognizes the unique way that women are introduced to the criminal justice system and client supervision is tailored to women’s needs and individual client goals. Our agency partners with many community partners and social service agencies to help provide a more holistic, safe, and trauma informed approach to addressing criminogenic behavior. We also focus on building on our individual client strengths through settings goals and collaborative case planning.
The goals of the Women’s program are to help women make empowered decisions that strengthen their lives by:
- Recognizing the unique pathways that introduce women to probation by implementing the Women’s Risk Needs Assessment (WRNA)- an evidence-based gender responsive risk/needs assessment tool.
- Creating a voluntary multidisciplinary team of individuals and community partners who represent diverse areas of expertise that can promote services during and after probation term.
- Implementing an internal cognitive behavioral group that incorporates a trauma informed approach and provides opportunities to enhance existing strengths.
- Creating an environment where women feel safe and reducing the chances of re-traumatization
- Continuous and ongoing program evaluation to ensure we are meeting the needs of clients
- Maintaining proper staffing levels, caseload sizes, and training needs to support the program
This program is currently offering the following services to Women who are eligible for the program:
- The Women’s Risk Needs Assessment. The WRNA is an Evidence based and validated assessment. The assessment covers topics such as attitudes, mental health, parenting, abuse, and relationship to name a few. The WRNA also focuses on Women’s strengths and self-efficacy.
- Multidisciplinary Team: This is a group of professionals who assess, support, collaborate and develop strategies for working with women on probation. The team can offer mentorship, housing, mental health services, parenting support, trauma work, and health services.
If you are a community agency or provider that would like to join our Multidisciplinary team, please contact Whitney Littlefield, Probation Program Manager, at (564) 397-4146.
