Work Crew Orientation
A. Administrative Regulations:
- Report for work before to 7:30am and remain until dismissed.
- Parking for crew members is located east of hanger/warehouse. It is posted "Crew Member Parking"
- Written verification of all excused absences is required. Excused absences are mainly limited to appropriate medical or court related matters. Any absence/late arrival can be cause for termination and/or escape prosecution.
- Pregnant women are not allowed to participate on work crew.
- You are required to provide a UA / BA sample when requested.
- Methods of discipline may include verbal warning, written warning, loss of credit for the day or immediate termination.
- You must immediately report any injury or damaged property to your crew chief.
- All crew members have the right to know about materials we use and possible hazards. Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) are available upon request.
- You may be asked for permission to search your belongings. Failure to give permission will result in loss of credit for the day and/or termination from the program.
B. Prime Rules:
- Arguing or fighting with supervisors or crew members is forbidden.
- Physical contact between crew members, either violent or affectionate, may be cause for termination of both participants.
- No weapons of any type are allowed on crew. No alcohol or illicit drugs are allowed on crew.
- Threats, intimidation, harassment or harassing statements (sexual, racial, religious, ethnic, etc.) will not be tolerated.
- Gang, club, or organizational activities (solicitation, recruitment, indoctrination, etc.) are not permitted on crew.
- Behavior will reflect a positive image of a county employee; profanity, yelling and horseplay are not permitted on crew.
- Do not start a conversation with persons not officially connected with Work Crew.
- Do not enter any store, business or home during Work Crew hours.
- No smoking in county vehicles. Smoking is allowed only at designated break sites and times.
- Seat belt use is mandatory.
- Clark County is not responsible for the loss or damage of personal items.
- Lunch - you must bring your lunch in a clear plastic bag.
- The only excused absense is one for which you have a doctor or dentist note for court/probation officer paperwork.
C. Work Performance Rules:
Be prepared. Providing adequate water, food, sanitary items, medications (ie. bee sting epi-pen), work clothing (to include proper footwear), etc., is the sole responsibility of the crew member:
a. Shorts, cutoffs, bathing suits, halter tops and ragged apparel are not suitable; appropriate undergarments are required. Objectionable messages or clothing is not appropriate. Ankle-length parts are mandatory.
b. Shirts must be worn at all times. Sleeveless shirts and tank tops are not allowed
c. Sandals, flip flops and slippers are not suitable.- Personal hygiene must be appropriate for working conditions. Soap and water are available.
- Safety equipment (reflective vest and helmet) must be worn when directed by the crew chief. Such equipment will be provided.
- Remain in the assigned work area at all times, to include any break periods.
- Steady work performance is expected. No sitting down, standing around or leaning on tools; when task is completed, report to your crew chief.
- Safe usage of tools is of utmost importance; always watch out for other workers.
- Breaks are at the discretion of the crew chief, based on the priority of the project.
- Do not approach anything which appears hazardous or in any way dangerous.
- Replace work crew gear and tools in appropriate areas.
- Found items are county property and must be turned in to the crew chief.
- Use and/or possession of personal items (cell phone, iPod, etc.) is permitted on breaks/lunch at the discretion of the crew chief.
- Bags, sacks, backpacks, purses, etc. are not allowed on crew. do not bring them with you or you will not be allowed to go out on crew.
D. Termination for Cause:
- Positive UA / BA results for illegal substance use.
- Serious violations, repeated minor violations or willful damage to county property through maliciousness or neglect.
- Failure to comply with attendance standards may be considered an escape and can result in additional charges.
