Vancouver, Wash. – Ensuring access to safe, affordable transportation for those who do not drive is vital for independent living. Community transit and new technologies may be able to assist and provide more options for those most in need of transportation services.

Clark County’s Commission on Aging will continue its yearlong focus on transportation during its next meeting, at 4:30 pm Tuesday, May 15, in the sixth-floor Hearing Room of the Public Service Center, 1300 Franklin St.

The meeting, which is open to the public, will feature two speakers:

  • Colleen Kuhn is the Executive Director of the Human Services Council, a nonprofit corporation providing transportation and volunteer services in Southwest Washington. Kuhn will discuss the council’s transportation programs, as well as the importance of partnerships, coalitions and service coordination to address transportation barriers for an aging population.
  • Kevin Chambers is an independent consultant focusing on transportation, technology and human services. From 2015 to 2017, Chambers was Chief Technology Officer of Ride Connection, Inc., a nonprofit organization that provides transportation services to Portland-area residents with limited options, primarily those 60 and older and people with disabilities.

The May 15 discussion is the Commission on Aging’s third meeting this year on transportation, which is critical for a livable community. Transportation allows residents of all ages and abilities to connect with others and maintain their independence.
