View of agricultural lands within Clark County
Who We Are
The County Council created the Agricultural Advisory Commission through an ordinance in late 2024 to better obtain the input of agricultural producers and others associated with agriculture. This was based upon the recognition that agriculture is a significant contributor to the local economy and a high quality of life for Clark County residents and that many county decisions can affect agricultural production and viability.
The council saw the need for feedback on issues related to land use and growth management proposals, and policies, economic strategies, and collaborative partnerships that directly and indirectly affect agriculture in Clark County.
The commission provides reviews and recommendations to the Clark County Manager, Clark County Council, the Clark County Planning Commission, and other appropriate boards and commissions on issues that affect agriculture in Clark County. The Commission provides a forum for those in the agricultural community and others interested in enhancing and promoting the long-term sustainability of agriculture in Clark County. They also inform the County Council on proposals, policies, strategies, and partnerships relating to protecting and enhancing the long-term viability of agriculture in the county.
What We Do
When creating the Agricultural Advisory Commission, the County Council outlined the commission’s functions as:
- Review and provide recommendations on the comprehensive plan, zoning, subarea plans, and county code amendments that directly affect lands or agricultural activities, or lands of agricultural significance; and
- Analyze and develop recommendations that will assist the county in addressing other issues that affect agriculture at the county, regional, state and federal levels; and
- Upon request of the Director of Community Planning, the Commission may assist the department by providing review and comment on comprehensive planning and zoning related to issues in and adjacent to designated agricultural land.
- Assist the county and make recommendations to establish, promote, and implement a comprehensive program of agricultural protection and preservation.
