Henry & Ann Poeland Farm

Body

Henry and Ann Poeland purchased the property in 1955 and built the barn in 1959. Originally, there was a large machine shed, another very old barn, silo and hay storage building, which fell down in big storms. Ann told the current owners that Henry cut up the staves from the silo and used them in the foundation of the new barn. They raised chickens for Foster Farms for many years in this barn and two additional barns on the property. The barn is long and distinctive with six cupolas and horizontal tongue-in-groove fir siding. The original shake roof was replaced with metal in the 2000s.

The concrete from the barn was hand-mixed on site with round river rocks from the property. The entire barn was poured without footings and is crumbling and failing like a powdery sandstone.
