Vancouver, WA — Bryce Hackett has been recognized by the Washington State Public Health Association as a 2015 Health Champion in the Outstanding Student category. As the youth representative on the Clark County Public Health Advisory Council, Bryce consistently exhibits leadership in protecting and promoting public health. Recently, he testified before the Clark County Board of Health about the harmful effects of electronic vaping devices. He also joined other public health and school advocates in Olympia to testify in favor of legislation restricting youth access to e-cigarettes. A resident of Vancouver and senior at Columbia River High School, Bryce is enrolled in International Baccalaureate courses and several advanced courses at Clark College. While working toward his long-term academic goals, including a degree in bioengineering and global health technologies, Bryce finds time to volunteer. Not only is he a member of the local Public Health Advisory Council, but he also serves on the Clark County Youth Commission, an advisory group to the county councilors. He mentors Olympiad students in preparation for competitions and is founder of "I-Like-Pi," a tutoring service that supports students from first- through 12th-grade. Bryce plans to attend Rice University in Houston, Texas, in the fall. He will be a Master of Ceremonies during the 2015 Youth Achievement Celebration at 2-4 p.m., Sunday, June 14, 2015, at Skyview High School, 1300 N.W. 139th St.
