Self-haul options

Clark County has three transfer stations open to customers who have items to dispose of that are not accepted through curbside pickup or prefer to haul their waste to a transfer station directly. Note that accepted items and hours vary based on location. Call before you go!

Safe hauling - Secure your load!

Red truck with a secured load

In the state of Washington, unsecured loads cause over 300 crashes and contribute up to 40% of roadside litter every year.

To prevent litter and injury, the state of Washington and local ordinances require all loads being hauled (residential and commercial customers) to be secured and covered. Under these rules, any load with visible unsecured waste may be subject to state patrol citations and a surcharge at the transfer station.

We all have a part to play in keeping our roads safe and litter free. To avoid unnecessary fees and to protect our community, always secure your self-hauled garbage and recycling. The Washington Department of Ecology offers tips on securing your load.

Garbage produced by a commercial contractor may only be handled and self-hauled to the disposal facility by the contractor or contractor’s personnel in a company owned and labeled vehicle.

Subcontractors may only self-haul waste they produce and handle from their hired operations on the job site. The waste must be hauled to the disposal facility by the subcontractor or subcontractor’s staff, in a company owned and labeled vehicle.

Mixed garbage produced and handled by multiple contractors, subcontractors, or clients at the job site would not qualify for self-haul and would need to be collected by the G-Certified hauler (Waste Connections).

Please visit the Washington Utilities and Transportation Commission website for guidance on collecting and transporting garbage and recycling.
