In the course of purchasing land for road, parks and other construction project, the county can end up with parcels or remnants of parcels that are not needed for public purposes.

If the Board of County Councilors concludes the county is not likely to need the property, the board may authorize the disposition of the property. Typically, the property either is:

  • Appraised and sold at fair market value.
  • Sold at public auction.
