Project will replace failing culvert filled with dirt, other debris, near Washougal River
Vancouver, WA – Beginning next week, a short section of Northeast Borin Road will be closed to all traffic so a contractor can replace a failing culvert.
An unnamed tributary of the Washougal River flows through the culvert, which is rusty, undersized and about 85 percent filled with debris. The failing culvert will be replaced by a much larger structure to allow fish passage in a rural area northeast of Washougal.
The work will require closing a section of Northeast Borin Road, about one-eighth mile east of Northeast Hughes Road, beginning Tuesday, Aug. 2. The county’s contractor, McNealy Excavating Inc. of Washougal, expects to reopen the road by the beginning of September. Bad weather and other factors can delay construction.
Temporary signs will guide drivers around the closure using Northeast Hughes Road, Northeast Washougal River Road and Northeast 412th Avenue. A map showing the detour is available on Clark County’s website, www.clark.wa.gov/public-works.
To minimize the project’s impact, construction was scheduled after the 2016 Peterson Cat Washougal Motocross National at the nearby Washougal MX Park and when it will have minimal effect on fish in the unnamed creek.
