NE 179th St at NE 29th Ave

Public Works is moving forward with design activities associated with the reconstruction of the intersection of Northeast 179th Street and Northeast 29th Avenue.  The intent of the project is to reconstruct the existing single lane all-way stop controlled intersection to a roundabout controlled intersection.  This upgrade to the intersection is necessary to accommodate additional traffic volumes associated with future residential and commercial growth in the area.

The roundabout will include illumination and will be designed to operate initially with single lanes but will be sized to be expandable to multi-lanes in the future to meet the eventual widening of the Northeast 179th Street corridor to four lanes.  Other improvements will include upsizing of culverts to meet current standards, construction of retaining walls, utility adjustments, and stormwater conveyance and treatment facility.  Construction is currently scheduled to begin in the summer of 2024.
