A new paint recycling program is operating in Clark County, allowing households and businesses to recycle leftover paint, stain, and varnish conveniently and sustainably.

The program, operated by the nonprofit PaintCare, launched on April 1 and is now operating more than 20 paint recycling drop-off sites in Clark County and more than 150 sites across the state. PaintCare is replacing the Clark County Paint-Take-Back program that has operated in the absence of a stewardship program since 2005 through a partnership between Clark County and Waste Connections.

Public Health is urging Clark County residents to continue taking steps to slow the spread of COVID-19, including getting vaccinated, as case numbers continue to rise.

In the last seven days, Clark County has averaged 80 new cases per day – up from 69 new cases per day the previous seven days. This time last month, Clark County was averaging 43 new cases per day.

Case numbers are increasing across all age groups, but the biggest increase is occurring in young adults 20 to 49 years old. The smallest increase is among people 65 years and older, which has the highest COVID-19… Read More


The COVID-19 community testing site located at Tower Mall (5403 E. Mill Plain Blvd.) will close at the end of the day Friday, April 30.

More than 10,000 free COVID-19 tests have been administered at the Tower Mall Community Testing site since it opened Jan. 12. The COVID-19 vaccination site at Tower Mall will have more than 4,000 first-dose appointments available in the coming week. The site operates Friday, Saturday, Monday and Tuesday, and will have about 1,000 first-dose appointments available for each of those days.

For now, only those currently eligible to be vaccinated – those in Phase 1a or Phase 1b Tiers 1-4 – can schedule appointments. Public health officials in Clark and Cowlitz counties are urging people to stay close to home this spring break and take precautions if gathering with others.

COVID-19 case numbers had plateaued in Clark and Cowlitz counties, but over the last few weeks have begun to increase. Additionally, multiple COVID-19 virus variants have been identified in Clark and Cowlitz counties, including variants known to spread more easily.

The Clark County Council is seeking applicants for two volunteer positions on the Solid Waste Advisory Commission. One position represents north Clark County, and the other represents the county at-large.

The three-year terms begin in April. Meetings are held quarterly at 6 pm on the first Thursday of the months of February, May, August and November. Meetings are currently held virtually.
