Vancouver, WA – Clark County’s Master Composter/Recycler program will hold two composting classes this month at the 78th Street Heritage Farm, 1919 N.E. 78th St. Both classes are free, but registration is required.

A “worm shop” will be held 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 11. Participants will receive a free worm bin and worms and information on what worm composting is, why it is beneficial and how to build and maintain a worm bin.

Vancouver, WA – Clark County will hold a Green Neighbors Recycling Day event from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 17, in yellow parking lot 1 at Clark College, 1900 Fort Vancouver Way.

County residents can drop off block foam, electronic equipment, old tires without rims, refrigerators, freezers, air conditioners and scrap metal. Participants are limited to five tires per person. Shredding services will be available, with a limit of two banker boxes per visit. No business waste will be accepted.

Vancouver, WA ‒ Homeowners can learn how to inspect gravity-fed septic systems, maintain their septic systems and wells, and prevent costly repairs at a workshop sponsored by Clark County and Washington State University Clark County Extension.

Vancouver, WA – Clark County’s Green Business program recognized three businesses at Thursday’s Morning Blend networking event at the new downtown Hudson Building. The event had record attendance and was followed by a green ribbon cutting.

Vancouver, WA ‒ A Clark County woman in her 60s has acquired the Zika virus while traveling in Central America, a region listed in Zika travel advisories issued by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

The illness is Clark County’s first reported Zika case. Health officials do not expect the virus to spread locally because the types of mosquitoes that transmit Zika are not found in the Pacific Northwest. The case does not present a risk to the public. Vancouver, WA ‒ With temperatures expected to approach 100 degrees Fahrenheit Thursday through Saturday, Public Health officials are urging residents to protect themselves during the hot spell.

“We are encouraging people to avoid or limit physical activity outdoors, take shelter in air-conditioned buildings, and drink plenty of fluids,” said Dr. Alan Melnick, Clark County health officer. “Elderly people and the very young are especially vulnerable during periods of intense or prolonged heat.”
