New hours for Vital Records office beginning Monday, Oct. 9

Clark County Public Health’s Vital Records office is making changes to its regular office hours. Here are the new customer service hours beginning Monday, Oct. 9, 2023:

  • By phone: 8:30 am to 4 pm Monday through Friday
  • In person: 8 am to 4 pm Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday. Closed to in-person services on Tuesday.

Public Health encourages residents to dispose of fallen leaves properly

As colorful leaves begin to fall from trees, Clark County Public Health is encouraging residents to properly dispose of leaves to keep them out of streets and the landfill.

Leaves should not be raked or blown into streets. Fallen leaves can clog storm drains and create areas of standing water on roadways, making roads unsafe for drivers, bicyclists and pedestrians. Instead, Public Health encourages residents to take advantage of local disposal options that use leaves to create compost.

Public Health’s Vital Records office closed Thursday, Oct. 5

Clark County Public Health’s Vital Records office will be closed Thursday, Oct. 5 to perform testing of the office’s new records management system. All other Public Health offices will be open regular hours.

The Vital Records office will reopen at 8 am Friday, Oct. 6. Orders for birth and death certificates can continue to be made online through the Public Health website.

Free online and in-person workshops promote composting and sustainable living

Clark County Public Health’s Composter Recycler program is offering a series of free online and in-person workshops aimed at teaching participants how to reduce their impact on the planet.

The Composter Recyclers will host eight workshops – each focused on a specific topic, from backyard composting to green living – and two in-person field training events where participants can construct compost piles and view demonstration compost bins. All workshops are provided at no cost.

Board of Health seeks applicants for two Public Health Advisory Council positions

The Clark County Board of Health is seeking applicants for two open positions on the volunteer Public Health Advisory Council.

One opening is for the position held by a dentist practicing in Clark County. The three-year term begins as soon as it’s filled and ends Sept. 30, 2026.

The second opening is for the position held by a medical doctor practicing in Clark County. The selected applicant will fill the remainder of a three-year term that begins Nov. 1, 2023 and ends Sept. 30, 2025.

Public Health lifts algae advisory at Lacamas Lake after water quality improves

Clark County Public Health has lifted its advisory at Lacamas Lake. Water samples collected from the lake show water quality has improved over the last two weeks and toxin levels are no longer elevated.

The warning signs posted at the lake are being removed. However as long as blooms of harmful algae are present, toxin levels could increase as conditions at the lake change. The city of Camas recently began the annual drawdown of Lacamas Lake, and in… Read More

Public Health’s Vital Records office to close early on Tuesdays through Oct. 17

Clark County Public Health’s Vital Records office will be closing early on Tuesdays throughout September and into October. The early closures will allow for staff training as the office prepares to launch a new records management system.    

Here are the Vital Records office hours beginning Sept. 11, 2023:

  • Monday, Thursday and Friday: 8 am to 4 pm
  • Tuesday: 8 am to 1 pm
  • Wednesday: 9 am to 4 pm

The office will resume regular hours – closing at 4 pm on Tuesdays – beginning Tuesday, Oct. 24, 2023.

The Clark County Board of Health is seeking applicants for seven positions representing various community and professional groups on the volunteer Public Health Advisory Council.

The board is accepting applications from Clark County residents for five, three-year terms beginning Oct. 1, 2023 and ending Sept. 30, 2026:

  • Three positions representing consumers of public health services
  • One position for a dentist practicing in Clark County

Public Health lifts advisory at Vancouver Lake after water quality improves

Vancouver, Wash. – Clark County Public Health has lifted its warning advisory at Vancouver Lake. Water samples collected from the lake show water quality has improved over the last two weeks and toxin levels are no longer elevated.

The warning signs posted at the lake are being removed. While the algal bloom at Vancouver Lake is dissipating, harmful algae can return and toxin levels could increase as conditions at the lake change. Public Health encourages people swimming and recreating in the lake to watch for floating scum and avoid direct contact with water in those areas. Pets… Read More
