Vancouver, Wash. – Clark County residents can safely dispose of sensitive materials at a free document shredding event this month. The event is 10 am to 1 pm Saturday, Sept. 22, at Salmon Creek Park & Ride, 1112 NE 136th St.

“This event is intended only for documents with personal information, such as phone numbers, Social Security numbers and bank account information,” said Jill Krumlauf, Clark County Public Health outreach specialist. Examples of such documents include financial statements, invoices, medical bills, pay stubs and tax records.

Routine monitoring of swim beaches has concluded for the season

 

Vancouver, Wash. – Clark County Public Health is lifting all advisories for Vancouver Lake. Cyanobacteria blooms are no longer present at any areas of the lake that are easily accessible to the public.

Public Health has been monitoring algae blooms at the lake since July, when blooms of cyanobacteria, also known as blue-green algae, formed at the Burnt Bridge Creek inlet and the flushing channel near the swim beach. Vancouver, Wash. – The Clark County Council is seeking applicants for a volunteer position on the Solid Waste Advisory Commission.

The position represents the local business community. The three-year term will begin once the position is filled.

The commission advises the county council on solid waste issues, such as recycling, garbage collection, landfills, transfer stations and waste-reduction programs.

Vancouver, Wash. – Clark County Public Health is issuing a warning for Vancouver Lake after test results revealed elevated levels of cyanotoxins in the water. The elevated toxin levels were detected at the Burnt Bridge Creek inlet to the lake where Public Health identified a bloom of cyanobacteria, also known as blue-green algae, in July.

Public Health has been monitoring the inlet, as well as the swim beach and the flushing channel near the swim beach, and regularly sampling the water to test for toxins. Blooms are currently present at all three locations… Read More

Public Health closed Klineline Pond to swimming and wading on Tuesday, after routine testing revealed elevated levels of E. coli bacteria. Test results from water samples taken on Wednesday showed improved water quality, prompting Public Health to lift the closure on Thursday.

Vancouver, Wash. – Clark County Public Health is closing Klineline Pond to swimmers due to elevated levels of E. coli bacteria detected during routine testing. Some E. coli bacteria can cause serious gastrointestinal illness if water is accidentally swallowed.  

Due to the elevated bacteria levels, Public Health is closing the pond to swimming and wading. People who fish at Klineline should take precautions to avoid water contact.

Public Health posted warning signs at the swim beach on Tuesday. Routine testing at the pond showed elevated levels of E. coli bacteria, which can cause serious gastrointestinal illness when water is accidentally swallowed.

Additional water samples were taken Tuesday. Those results came back today and showed acceptable water quality, prompting Public Health to lift the warning.

Vancouver, Wash. – Clark County Public Health lifted the swim beach warning at Battle Ground Lake this morning, after the latest water samples did not show elevated levels of bacterial contamination.

Public Health posted warning signs at the swim beach on Friday. An investigation into two shigellosis cases identified the lake as a possible source of infection. Shigellosis is an infection caused by several strains of shigella, a type of bacteria that can live in human intestines, and is spread through fecal-oral transmission.
