Update and Improvement Project

Clark County Parks and Nature is starting a project to improve Orchards Community Park.

The project will include adding new features and replacing amenities that have reached the end of their useful service life. Additionally, we will   bring the park up to modern standards for accessibility and safety.

Project Survey

Whether you’re able to attend one of the project kickoff events or not, we want to hear from you via our online survey! Take the survey to let us know what features and improvements you’d like to see.

The survey is open and will close on Thursday, Aug. 6.

What improvements will be made?

To be grant-eligible, the project must include the following elements:

  • A new spray feature or water play area
  • Two new playground structures
  • One new pavilion or picnic shelter
  • Repaving damaged paths and access routes to get from parking lots to park amenities

In addition to these elements, Clark County Parks and Nature is using dedicated capital funds to also make the following improvements:

  • Repair and improve the existing picnic shelter
  • Replace and relocate the bathroom
  • Add more parking
  • Improve lawn games and seating areas
  • Improve visibility and access to the park

What elements won’t the project include?

  • Lighting along paths and trails won’t be included in this project. At this time, the parks system cannot sustain the ongoing costs of lighting parks that do not generate revenue through sports-field rental.
  • Community gardens won’t be developed as part of this project. We hope to have more community gardens in our park system in the future, but currently, our staffing levels can’t support management and maintenance of community garden spaces.
  • The forested areas and trail will not change as part of this project. We hope to limit our project impact to the already developed areas of the park and minimize impact to the trees in the forested areas. However, we may be required to improve pedestrian or vehicular circulation, which could impact some trees along the boundary of the park.
